In Bhutan, a Tshechu is an annual religious festival held in honor of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava), the saint who introduced Buddhism to Bhutan in the 8th century.
Tshechus are celebrated in monasteries, dzongs, and temples across the country, usually on auspicious dates of the lunar calendar. The highlight of the festival is a series of sacred masked dances (Cham) performed by monks and lay dancers.
